She was born June 28, 1928, the oldest of seven children, to Otto Earl and Clara LaFountain Ballhorn in Rainier, Ore. She married Kurt Dyck in Portland, Ore. immediately following World War II. They moved to the Denver area, where they raised their five children. They later divorced. In 1965, she moved to the Oregon coast, where she met her future life partner, Donald Sheperd. She worked for several years at Worman's Restaurant, later moving to Siletz and working at Noel's Market until her retirement. She was very active, creating hundreds of crocheted and sewn items through the years that she sold at holiday bazaars. Most of the residents of Siletz have at least one of the many items she created. She loved playing bunco with her girlfriends and also enjoyed many hours in her flowerbeds. She was preceded in death by her lifetime partner, Donald Sheperd; son, Ronnie Dyck; and her brother, Waldo (Bud) Ballhorn. She is survived by her children, Randy (Sue) Dyck of Littleton, Colo., Vicki (Greg) German of Pryor, Okla., Teri Dahl of Toledo; and Kevin (Rene) Dyck of Seal Rock; brothers, Art (Betty) Ballhorn, of Siletz, Curt (Leslie) Ballhorn of Toledo, Clay (Mary) Ballhorn of Baldwin Park, Calif.; sister Judy (Bill) Johnson of Siletz; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, at Bateman Funeral Home, 915 NE Yaquina Heights Dr. in Newport. Immediately following the service, everyone is invited to join the family at the Toledo Elks Lodge, 123 SE Alder, for a potluck luncheon to celebrate her life.
