Jean was born on March 3, 1924 in Corona, CA. to Addison Swanson and Annie Laura Medlock. Jean lived most of her life in the Corvallis/Albany, OR area. She taught kindergarten in the Corvallis School District for 28 years. Having a naturally gentle soul, she loved children and was a favorite of her pupils. She loved flowers and gardening and was known for her ever-present smile. Jean married Carl Powers in Corvallis, OR on June 3, 1953; they were married 56 years. From 1985 to 2005 they lived in Tidewater, OR, where they attended the Waldport Baptist Church. Due to failing health they moved to Longview, WA to be near their daughter. After the passing of her husband, Carl, Jean lived the past 2.5 years under the gentle care of the Walker House Adult Family Home in Longview, WA. Jean is survived by her daughter, Annie Tietze of Kelso, WA, her grandchildren, Ginny Miller and Jeffery Arnsdorf of Portland, OR, and her siblings Annie Hollinger of St. Helens, OR, Mary Cantil of Anchorage, AK, and Molly Elliott of Lake Oswego, OR. A service was held at the Twin Oaks Cemetery, 34275 Riverside Dr. SW, Albany, OR 97321 at two o'clock p.m. on April 9, 2013.
