Gary was born September 28, 1947, in Toledo, Oregon, to Harry and Mona (Basford) Norick. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, and played Tuba in the Marine Corps Band. He was discharged from the service in 1969, at which time he returned to Toledo. For the next decade and a half, he worked as a Sawyer for various lumber mills in the Toledo area, and, for a time, drove a truck throughout the region for Georgia-Pacific when they had their plywood mill at Toledo. In the mid-1980's when the mill closed its doors, he was hired on as a fork truck operator for what was then known as Larkin's Lumber Yard in Newport. He stayed on at this job through 2 changes in store ownership, and retired from ProBuild in 2010. Gary was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping, especially when doing so with his brothers and/or his son. He also enjoyed collecting, and watching, old movies, especially those starring John Wayne, James Cagney, or Humphrey Bogart, his favorite actors. Gary was preceded in death by his father: Harry Norick, in 1972; his stepfather: Wes Turney, in 1989; his mother: Mona Turney, in 1997; and his partner: Alice Walborn in 2011. Gary is survived by two daughters: Christy (Dave) Huguely of Newport, and Andrea Norick of Toledo; a son: Garrett Norick of Newport; three sisters: Aloma Templeton of Marysville, WA, Betty Jacobson Duncan of Toledo, and Carolyn Robertson of Buckley, WA; two brothers: Larry (Joyce) Norick of Portland, and Randy (Sharon) Norick of Camas, WA; former wives: Mary Callister Oleman of Newport, and Annette Pearce Norick of Toledo; two granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 28th, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 31 SW High Street, Newport, Oregon, with a Reception Supper to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Olalla Valley Golf Course, Toledo, Oregon.
