He was born on June 26th, 1938 in Fargo, North Dakota to Roy and Alice Redetzke. He served in the United States Army as an Orthopedic Specialist (active duty1956-1959, Honorably Discharged 1962) and was stationed at Fort Hood. He earned a BS in Art and Health Education from Moorehead State in 1964 and an MFA in Painting from California College of Arts and Crafts in 1970. David was married to Sonja Joanne Hanson on June 7th, 1963. They were married for fifty years. David was an art and health educator at the high school and community college level for many years. He was a fine artist active in a variety of media, including sculpture, acrylic paint and ceramics, who exhibited his artwork in galleries and art-fairs throughout the country. David was an unique and gregarious soul with an easy ability to communicate with a wide variety of people. Even in later years, when health was failing, he could be seen walking around Waldport or Yachats or the beach, striving to remain active and engaged with the world. He will not only be missed by his family, but by the many friends and acquaintances he met along the way. We all agree that he was an unforgettable human being. David is survived by his beloved wife Sonja, daughter Elizabeth and son Eric. The family wishes to thank the people of Yachats and all those who have shown their caring and support during a most challenging and difficult period.
