He was born July 24, 1921, to Charley Roy Burch and Etta Gray Burch in Yaquina, Ore., the youngest of five children. On March 27, 1947, he married Evalynn Edwards Krog, who had two children. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946. He spent several years working as a logger and in sawmills, and began working for the Oregon State Highway Department in 1957. He retired from Oregon Department of Transportation as a foreman of the Waldport Maintenance Station in 1980 and returned to the family farm near Eddyville. He was a long-time member of the Blodgett Community Church, but in recent years attended Eddyville Community Church with his children. He was preceded in death by his wife Evalynn; his siblings; and one grandson. He is survived by his children Dick (Carol) Krog, of Eddyville, and Lillian (Bart) January, of Harlan; grandchildren Rich Krog, of Forney, Texas, Kara Hawkes of Salem, Kathleen Sapp of Harrisburg, and James January of Bend; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Roberta Hunt of Elk Creek, Calif. and Hannah Wilson of Eddyville; numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Betty Jacobson of Toledo. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Summit Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at the Eddyville Community Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Lincoln County Hospice or Benton County Hospice, the Eddyville Community Church or a charity of one's choice.
