She was 90. Dorothy was born June 25, 1919, in Chicago to Thomas and Helga Gawne. She graduated from Chicago's Parker High School in 1937 and attended the University of Iowa, where she met John M. (Jack) Brady of Keokuk, Iowa. They were married in Chicago in 1938. During World War II, they lived in both El Centro, Calif., and Corvallis, Ore., while Jack was stationed with the Marines. After the war they lived in Omaha, Neb., and Chicago before moving to Lake Oswego, Ore., in 1956. They moved to Lincoln City in 1962 and to North Bend in 1999. When Dorothy's beloved husband Jack died in November 2008 at the age of 91, they had been married 70 years. As a youth, Dorothy enjoyed swimming, speed skating, sailing, drawing, painting and the music of Louis Armstrong and the big bands. She was an expert seamstress, knitter, cook, baker and gardener who also enjoyed reading, poetry, antiques, flower arranging, bird watching and the beach. Dorothy was an active volunteer for her church, her children's school and youth activities, and her community. In retirement, she and her husband enjoyed car travel and spending winters in southern California. Dorothy is survived by her younger brother, Thomas Gawne of Chicago; her three daughters, Helen Goss of Dubuque, Iowa, Dorothy (Debbie) Juola of Boise, Idaho, and Sara (Sally) Simpkins of North Bend; and 18 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
