He was born March 13, 1935 to George Robert Spinney and Georgia Bieloh. He was one of 11 children raised in Kings Valley. He attended Kings Valley Grade School and Corvallis High School. He worked as a chip and lumber truck driver and owned and operated Dick Spinney Trucking, D & L Spinney Trucking and Pacific Coast Trucking until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. During the 1970s, he sponsored his son's motorcycle racing. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Kings Valley Cemetery Association. He became a fan of NASCAR and spent many hours watching races. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Leila JoAnn Kisor; son, Delbert; grandson, Cody Williams; sister, Bonnie; and brothers, Jack, Bob and Art. He is survived by his wife, Pat Robeson Brown Spinney; son, David (Betty Pellham) Spinney of Philomath; daughter, Charlotte Spinney Williams of Philomath; stepchildren, Tuff (Robin) Brown of Toledo; and Carla Freeman of Toledo; granddaughter Nicki Williams-Carroll of Corvallis; brothers, Francis and Billy of Kings Valley, James "Butch" of Philomath, Darrell of Wren, and Melvin and Jerry of Albany; step-grandchildren, Golden Smith of Philomath, Heather and Nikki Brown of Toledo, Amber Prindel of Eddyville, Brandon Freeman of Pendleton, Mandy Hall and Michael Freeman of Toledo; three great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. A memorial graveside service was held Dec. 29, 2009 at Kings Valley Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Kings Valley Cemetery Association in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 NW 5th St., Corvallis, OR 97330.
