Hanson when I knew him) and a Officer Wright and how they impacted who I am today. I was, for many years, the victim of domestic violence. I suffered approximately 3 years and when he was on duty he was always professional but kind and assuring. In mid summer 1985, the violence had escalated to the point that Sgt. Hanson voiced his fear that my husband would eventually kill me. On one particular night that summer, he came to North Lincoln ER where I was being treated after being beaten with Officer Wright and between the two convienced me to leave and enter the shelter for battered women that Officer Wright was heavily involved with. Any of you reading this, are probably aware of the cycle of domestic violence. I had contact with many an officer and emergency staff member who eventually gave up on me. I could feel their "you? Again? Why do you put up with it?" everytime they had to come to my rescue. Not Sgt.Hanson or Officer Wright! My last contact with them was in the Autumn of 1985. I had gone back to my abuser. It was a cold, rainy, and windy night. Sgt. Hanson and another officer had arrived at my house to find me brused and beaten. My husband had left and Sgt. Hanson called Officer Wright to cone to the house. Just before leaving a very pregnant Offic. Wright to finish taking pictures and take me to the hospital, Sgt. Hanson put his hand on my shoulder and said "You know, I and Susan over there jniw you have the strengh for both yourself and your kids to break the cycle here, now, tonight." and he left to go find my abuser. Well, my abuser came back. Before we could get in the car to go to the hospital, he came barging through the door, screaming he was going to kill me, and that extremely pregnant little female officer got between I and him, stood her ground and told him he'd have to go through her first while calling for Sgt. Hanson and the other officer to come back on her radio. She didn't budge that night, putting herself between a dunken lunitic and me. Everytime he attempted to lunge, she was there. It is almost 28 years to the day that I left and never went back. Ernie Hanson and that girl had the biggest impact on my decision to finally stop the beatings and destruction in my and my kids lives. It's great to find a place I can finally thank him. I don't think he ever knew how he changed my life so I hope he eventually reads this. I wish I could find her too to thank her for valuing my life so much that she would risk hers. I have searched he name, but there are a ton with that name, and it's probably not even her name anymore. Thank you Chief Hanson!
