Erskine Edmund "Ed" G. Erskine, 83, of Newport, Ore., died Oct. 8, 2010 in Newport. He was born Jan. 14, 1927 to Patrick and Marjorie Erskine in Portland. After graduating from high school, he served his country proudly in the Marine Corps for two years aboard the USS New Jersey. In 1950, he married Beverly Lamb in Portland. He was a local delivery truck driver for several years before buying his own business. He owned and operated a home oil delivery company for 12 years and then bought ABC Fire Extinguisher Inc. After running the company for five years, he decided to retire to the coast. In 1985 he did just that, and sold his company and retired to Newport. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church. He liked to travel and camp, and he enjoyed helping out at the port by driving truck. However, his greatest love was fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Beverly Erskine; son, Daniel Erskine; daughter, Connie Fisicaro; sister, Winifred Martin; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Food Share or Samaritan House. Services are planned at a later date. Bateman Funeral Home in Newport is handling arrangements.
