Gibbs, 82, of Waldport, Ore., died Oct. 9, 2010 at his home. He was born July 29, 1928 to Edward H. and May (Adamson) Gibbs in Wapato, Wash. He graduated from Toppenish High School in 1946. He worked on the family farm. In June 1950, he married Loretta J. Hadley of Toppenish. He continued to farm after their divorce, until 1960, when he accepted a mechanics job with Western Geophysical Oil Exploration, which took him to Canada, Alaska, Argentina and Egypt. In October 1963, he moved to Waldport, where he and long time friend, Dale Hadley started a trucking business. He also worked on rock crushers and retired from Angell Job Corps after 18 years as an instructor. He married Judy S. Pond in December 1965 in Waldport. He was a man of many talents, he loved to work on or restore old tractors, water chess engines and lawnmowers. His special project with the help of friends was a 1929 Model A coupe. Quite often he made the parts he needed for his projects. He was a collector of many things, most of which he could tell a story about. He spent most of his time in his garage tinkering on something until two years ago, when his health didn't allow him to work. He loved visiting with his many friends, watching TV and playing on the computer. On really good days, you would see him taking his little dog, Shadow, for a ride around his neighborhood on his 3-wheeler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and May Gibbs, and his sister, Dorothy Erickson. He is survived by his wife, Judy, of Waldport; sons, Scott of Yakima, Wash. and Danny (Mari) of Edinburg, Texas; brother, Edward E. Gibbs of Wilmington, N.C.; granddaughters, Christie (Troy) Herbst of Selah, Wash., Nichole Gibbs of Yakima, Lindsay (Frank) Silvia of Lewiston, Idaho; grandson, Mike Gibbs of Yakima; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. At his request, there will be no funeral service. The family will have a memorial service in November. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Waldport Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 822, Waldport, OR 97394 or to a charity of one's choice. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
