Rico Gene D. Rico, 75, of Albany, Ore., died Sept. 24, 2010 at Samaritan Albany General Hospital in Albany. He was born Dec. 7, 1934 to Jarvis Franklin and Lillis May (Gregory) Rico in Hobart, Okla. He moved to Toledo at age two, graduating from high school in Toledo in 1953. He married Joyce Fodge in Waldport on June 9, 1956. He worked for Georgia-Pacific plywood division until moving to Eugene in 1962, when he entered the sales profession. In 1971, he moved to Albany, where he opened Rico's DekaBark, expanding in 1978 to Salem, opening Bark Boys. The family moved to Salem in 1979 and returned to Albany in 2004. He retired in 1995. He was a life member of the Elks Lodge and a member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed fishing and wintering in Yuma, Arizona. He loved his grandchildren and their activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jarvis and Lillis Rico; brother, Kenneth Pool; and grandson, Isaiah Pool. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Rico of Albany; children, Carrie (Don) Clark Pool of Albany; and Connie Riecke of Salem; sister, Cheryl (Steve) Cole of Eugene; grandchildren, Bill (Anjee) Riecke II of Mesa, Ariz.; Sarah (Gabe) Riecke-Barron of Salem; Shea Riecke of Salem; Thomas (Amanda) Pool of Albany; and Jamin Pool of Albany; six great-grandchildren; six nephews; and four nieces. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation or Boy Scouts of America and sent in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany OR 97321.
