He was born on March 8, 1933 to Sarah (Seamon) and William Mix in the city of Williamsport, Pa. He graduated from Lockhaven High School in Pennsylvania and married his high school sweetheart, Marian Elaine Schreckengast. In 1955, he entered the U.S. Border Patrol and began his 42-year career with federal law enforcement. He retired from the U.S. Customs Service in 1998 and left his home of 37 years in Hawaii and moved to Depoe Bay. During his lifetime, he was an avid runner, particularly enjoying marathons. He enjoyed the outdoors and after retiring, took up the game of golf, spending many hours at the Agate Beach Golf Course. He was a member of the Masonic Order of Freemasonry and the Scottish Rite. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sara and William Mix, and his brother, Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Marian Mix; children, Vicki (Carl) Finseth of Depoe Bay, William Leonard (Ursula) of Redondo Beach, Calif., and William Kam (Jiline) of Post Falls, Idaho; brother, Joseph G.R. (Pirjo) of Boonsboro, Md.; sisters, Emily (Paul) Kelly of Sayre, Pa. and Lucia (Jack) Gast of Lancaster, Pa.; his grandchildren, Erik, Brianna and Courtney; great-grandson, Justin; and many nieces and nephews. No formal services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Parkinson's Association Foundation and the American Heart Association.
