She was born and raised in Oregon and then graduated from Brigham Young University, where she met her future husband, Ben. They moved to Fairfield, Calif. five years ago for Ben to pursue his career as a librarian at the CSU Maritime Academy in Vallejo. She loved her work as an elementary school teacher in Utah. She also worked as a high school registrar and as an administrative assistant in the Vallejo Unified School District Offices. She most recently taught ESL and Spanish to adults in Vallejo. She was a woman of strong faith and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in the children's group, singing in choir, and reading scriptures in both English and Spanish. She loved teaching others how to read and discover the joy found in books. She was able to meet many milestones in life despite her serious illness. She believed in actively making memories with her family right up until the end. She is survived by her husband, Benjamin; sons, Gabriel and Gideon; parents, Bob and Elaine Peterson of Newport, Ore.; brothers, Erick (Sheryl) Peterson and Kevin Peterson; sisters, Laura (Justin) Gearing and Crystal Peterson; her grandparents; and nine nieces and nephews. She wished to develop and donate a Family Support Collection at the Cal Maritime Library, where children can learn about what is taught at the academy and the careers their parents are pursuing. This collection would include materials to help spouses and children deal with parents being deployed for periods of time. A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, at the LDS Chapel, 806 Travis Blvd. in Fairfield, Calif. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the California Maritime Academy Foundation, 200 Maritime Academy Dr., Vallejo, CA 94590. In the lower left corner of the check write: "in memory of Cherie Bolin - Library Fund." Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
