He was born May 7, 1932 to Floyd and Auralia (Ricker) Tyler in Peach Orchard, Ark. He was raised in Peach Orchard as one of 11 children. In the late 1940s, the entire family moved to Oregon. He was in the U.S. Army from January 1951 to December 1953. He married Blanche Downey and raised three children while employed at the Georgia-Pacific Paper Mill. He retired from G-P in 1994. He was a light to all in his family. His friendly personality and joy of life will be missed. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, painting, fishing and fiddling around outside with his faithful dog, Buck. He enjoyed watching the Blazers, Beavers, and any baseball on TV. But he was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan his whole life. Mostly, he was the best grandpa ever and touched each grandchild's life immeasurably. Although divorced from his wife Blanche Downey for many years, they remained partners and friends until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Auralia Tyler; brothers, Max, Bill, Tom, and Avon; and sisters, Pat, Bernetta and Judy. He is survived by his children, Craig (Cyndi) Tyler, Darla (Randy) Grove, and Christy (James) Haase; siblings, Mickey Tyler of Sacramento, Calif., Jerry Tyler of Sacramento, and Betty Tyler of Albany, Ore.; grandchildren, Wesley (Leanna) Tyler of Siletz, Lindsey and Eli Grove of Toledo, and Caitlyn and Maxwell Haase of Portland; and one great-grandchild. A remembrance for James was held Dec. 6, 2012 at the Downey Hall in Siletz. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
