He was born Sept. 4, 1931 to Harry and Ruth Thissell in Tidewater, Ore. He worked in the woods and at one time owned his own timber falling business. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also was an Oregon State University Beavers fan and always watched or attended their games whenever possible. Every year, his garden was a showplace. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Florence Thissell; children, Larry (Kim) Thissell of Waldport, Deana (Rick) Lawrence of Beaverton and Lora Atkinson of Bend; sister, Dorothy (Bob) Hughey of Corvallis; grandchildren, Randi, Toby, Sheila, Michael, Courtney and Brandon; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at a later date on the Alsea River.
