Kasner Hanyan J. "Slim" Kasner, of Blodgett, Ore., died Jan. 5, 2010 at his home. Born in 1917, he was raised in Panora, Iowa and then joined the Navy in 1936. He met his wife, Leone, in Honolulu while stationed at the Pearl Harbor Sub Base, and they were married in Pensacola, Fla. in January 1941. During World War II, he served in the South Pacific, and after the war he continued his naval career, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1956. Upon his retirement, Slim, Leone and their four children moved to the Lincoln County property they called Shamrock K Ranch. From 1956 until his death, he ran the Shamrock K. He also drove the Eddyville school bus from 1957 to 1968, was a partner in the Corvallis real estate firm Oregon Farms and Ranches, custom baled hay in the summer and occasionally filled in for the shop teacher at Eddyville High School. For many years, he was active in the Oregon Cattleman's Association, Oregon Beef Council, Lincoln County Soil and Water Conservation District, Future Farmers of America, and several 4-H clubs. He was a regular at every agricultural event in Lincoln County. He was preceded in death by his sons, Michael and Patric; stepbrother Bill; half brothers, Corky and Tom; half sister Betty; grandson Andrew; and great-grandson Olyron. He is survived by his wife Leone; his children, Candace and James; sisters, Betty Warner of Des Moines, Iowa, Johnie Wall of Panora, Iowa, and Peachie Schmidt of Dorrance, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
