Milton passed away Feb. 19 in Tillamook at age 82. He grew up in North Dakota and attended Ashley High School, where he excelled in sports. Milton lettered in every sport in high school, winning numerous ribbons and trophies, especially in track and field. After graduating from high school, Milton moved to Portland. Shortly after moving to Oregon, he was inducted into the U.S. Army. Due to his knowledge of the German language, Milton was sent on a top-secret operation in Bavaria named "Operation Paper Clip." He served his country honorably from 1945 to 1948. He returned to Oregon and attended the University of Oregon, graduating in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in business. Milton married Sheron Peterson in Reno, Nev., on July 24, 1954. He worked as the manager at JC Penny's in Moses Lake and Walla Walla, Wash., until 1976. He then worked in the Columbia Basin until 1979, managing a potato plant. In 1979, Milton and Sheron retired to Netarts. He loved everything the area had to offer, including clamming, crabbing and salmon fishing. Milton was a past member of the Rotary Club and Tillamook Elk's Lodge 1437. Milton was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Reich. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Sheron Reich of Netarts; sons James Reich and wife Harmui of Chiba, Japan, and Jeffrey Reich and companion Jennifer Blue of Seattle; daughter Susan Cartozian and husband Greg of Sammamish, Wash.; and granddaughter Mao Reich of Olympia, Wash.
