She was born Dec. 31, 1942 to Helen and Bill Fulkerson in St. Louis, Mo. She graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1963. She later received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Southern Oregon State College in Ashland, and her Master of Arts from University of Minnesota, and Nurse Practitioner from Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. She worked in the nursing field in Missouri, California, Canada, eastern Oregon and finally at the Oregon coast. Various local positions included being director of nursing at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport, being in charge of the county-wide school based health clinics while at the Lincoln County Health Department and finally working as Nurse Practitioner at Eddyville School with her good friend and principal Don McDonald. Her heart was centered on the wellbeing of children and she impacted the community with her nursing skills and compassion and care for children and families. Her skills and determination were instrumental in starting the Waldport Clinic. She had a quick wit and loved people. She made many good friends from Yachats, Waldport and the Newport area and in her church. She relished volunteering at Cape Perpetua and enjoyed leading walks to the Giant Spruce. She was a cook par excellence and used her skills to cook and organize monthly dinners for the poor at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She was active in many other activities in the church. She also loved to garden and grew flowers and vegetables that she shared with many in the community. She loved the Oregon coast, nature, and her two beloved cats, Eudora Rose and Gus. She is survived by her sister Barbara Bade of Tulsa, Okla.; brother-in-law Gary; sisters-in-law, Karen Minnis and Carol Furness; and her nephew Tim. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at St. Luke's By-The-Sea Episcopal Church, 1353 Highway 101 South in Waldport. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Seashore Literacy Center, P.O.
