She was born Oct. 12, 1928 in Portland. She loved to can vegetables that she grew from her garden. One of her noted accomplishments in gardening was growing an avocado tree from seed that reached more than eight feet tall. Her hobbies also included baking and rug hooking, and she had a passion for collecting stuffed animals and liked dogs and cats. She was an avid reader of non-fiction and loved the outdoors. She was a wonderful mother and endeared her grandchildren as "darling grandsons and darling great-grandchildren." She was preceded in death by her siblings, Thomas, Frankie, Lawrence, Eddy, Chuck, Richard, Ann, Clara, Rosalie and Margaret. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Wayne Hodges; daughter, Barbara J. Becksted of Toledo; sisters, Bernice Dockins of Waldport and Viola Sabin of Tigard; grandchildren, Chad (Leona) and Brodie (Amy) Becksted; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, at Bateman Funeral Home Chapel, 915 NE Yaquina Heights Dr. in Newport. Friends may call for visitation on Thursday between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. at Bateman Funeral Home. Her final resting place will take place at Eureka Cemetery in Newport.
