Bumgarner Jr. John A. Bumgarner Jr., 61, of Seal Rock, Ore., died Feb. 1, 2010. He was born Sept. 18, 1948 to John and Zette Bumgarner. He grew up in Nyssa, Ore. He moved to Anchorage, Alaska in 1975, where he resided with his sister, Mary, and his brother-in-law, Glen Tuttle, until September 1998. With their guidance and love, John, who had Downs Syndrome, trained and worked for an agency that cleaned office buildings. He was employed at Dimond Boulevard Burger King in Anchorage from 1982 until 1998. He loved going to work and outlasted several managers. He knew that he was an important part of the team and just knew that Burger King would shut down without him there to keep everyone in line. He rode public transportation to and from work and was known as "Cowboy John." He then moved to Oregon and lived with his niece, Cozy Reel, in Lincoln City, then on to Newport, where he continued to work for Burger King until 2007 for a total of 24 years. In 2008, he moved to Seal Rock to live with his sister, Nellye, and brother-in-law, Bill Elliott. He enjoyed life and loved to fish, bowl, dance and play his country CDs. He spent many hours working on his studies and filled many notebooks with his writing. He lived to tease and be teased back. If he called you a turkey, baboon or bowlegged, you knew you were loved. He said many times, "I'm trying to be nice, but you won't let me." He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Zette Bumgarner; his brother, Harold Bumgarner; and sister Mary Tuttle. He is survived by his sister, Nellye Elliott of Seal Rock; brother, Harry Bumgarner of Lakeview, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews. Bateman Funeral Home in Newport is handling arrangements.
