She was born Aug. 15, 1922 to Adrian Wayne Franklin and Lillian Pryde (Hamilton) Franklin in Newberg. She grew up living in Portland and Oretown, Ore., and moved with her family to Hidden Valley Ranch outside of Toledo in 1938. She graduated from Toledo High School in 1941. On Oct. 1, 1941, she married Albert Ivan Croston in Newport. After living in Toledo, Newport and Harlan, she and her husband purchased a ranch in the Elk City area in 1953, where they raised their five children. She worked at C.D. Johnson Lumber Co. in Toledo during World War II, and worked as a nurse's aide at New Lincoln Hospital in Toledo from 1970 to 1980. She was a 4-H leader and participated in the Lincoln County Fair for a number of years. She loved caring for the sheep and goats that she raised. She was a member of the Grange (Harlan and Elk City #515) for 68 years, earning her 6th degree, and was a member of the Oregon State Grange. One of the great events of her life was when she got to tour the USS Constitution (Old Ironside) when it was brought to Portland in the 1930s. Her uncle, several times removed, Capt. Bainbridge, commanded the ship in 1812. Her hobbies included researching the Bainbridge family history, collecting egg-shaped objects and playing pinochle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ivan Croston; her parents, Adrian Wayne Franklin and Lillian Pryde Franklin; brothers, Vernon Beverly and Wesley (Babe) Harrison; and half brother, Adrian Arden. She is survived by her children, Adrian Bradford Croston of Toledo, Karen Ann (Israel) Quinones of Portland, Sandra Elaine Kampert of Portland, Joanne Lee (Larry) Collier of Portland, and Albert Ivan (Laura) Croston, Jr. of Tillamook; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. A family memorial will be held this summer at the Croston Ranch and Oretown Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan Pacific Hospice, P.O.
