She was born on October 12, 1917 to Gertrude and William Perry on a homestead in Cochrane, Alberta, Canada. Her family moved by train to Portland, Oregon in 1927. Irene married in 1936 and had two children; a son, Everett and a daughter, Evelyn. Irene remarried in 1946 to Veteran Warren DeLauney. They were married for 54 years. The family lived in Tillamook and Newport before Warren retired to Florence, Oregon. After Warren passed in 1999, Irene moved to Newport to be by her daughter and son. Irene worked as a welder at Oregon Shipyard in Portland during WWII and at the Tillamook Cheese Factory. She volunteered her time including 5 years at the Florence Care Center, Newport Rehab, Newport Senior Center, the Hatfield Marine Science Center and over 6 years at Food Share of Lincoln County. As a cancer survivor, Irene walked in the annual Relay for Life for 11 years. She was also a fund raiser for Cancer Aid & Research, and at the age of 93 she personally raised over $900 for the cause. Irene was a member of "Reach to Recovery: and often visited pre-op and post-op patients with breast cancer. Irene sang in several choirs and for 10 years she sang in a mixed quartet. She also played alto kazoo in a "kitchen-band" for many years. She enjoyed walking, reading, music and bird-watching. She loved feeding her backyard birds and sometimes had more than a dozen chickadees eating from her outstretched hands. Irene took up water-skiing in her 60's, took a boat trip to Alaska at 80, and went horse-back riding and a motor cycle ride with her "Son-in-Love", Speed, on her 90th birthday. At 92, Irene had a small part in the local production of "My Fair Lady". Irene was a woman of strong faith. She was dedicated to God, Family & Friends. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Warren and her brothers, Gilbert, Lee, Lewis and Joseph Perry. She is survived by her two children, Everett (Sally) Cutter of Gleneden Beach and Evelyn (Speed) Rasmussen of Newport, 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and a brand new great-great grandson! Also, her stepdaughter Joyce Dunbar of Riverside, California and a foster son, Raymond Stull of Olympia, Washington. From Irene's children: A small note was found in our mom's belongings. It reads, "Though not much to leave in worldly goods, my most valuable contribution to the world is my two wonderful children." Mom, you'll be greatly missed but Forever Loved.
