Gregg, 77, of Newport, Ore., died July 22, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. He was born March 15, 1933 to Dick and Mildred Gregg of Fairfax, S.D. The family moved to Monmouth, Ore. and he grew up there with brother, Donald, and sisters, Shirley and Carol. He graduated from Central High School in 1951. He joined the Naval Reserve and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was married to Harlean H. (Harwood) Gregg on Sept. 5, 1954 in Independence, Ore. They briefly lived in Pendleton before moving to Newport in 1955. He was employed by Georgia-Pacific in Toledo, for 30 years and delivered U.S. Mail for eight years before his retirement. During those years, he also owned and commercial fished a day boat, the "Karen A." He enjoyed sport fishing, crabbing and clam digging, as well as upland bird hunting, especially with his favorite spaniel, "Nick." He was a life member of the VFW gun club, avid reader and crossword puzzle solver. He was a competitive cribbage player and excellent chili chef. Sharp to the end, he played Jeopardy before surgery.
