Ericksen, 98, of Otis, Ore., died July 23, 2010 in Lincoln City. He was born Jan. 1, 1912 to Olef and Winnie Ericksen. He was an active member of the Latter-day Saints Church, and truly kept the Sabbath holy. He was a humorous man with a big heart. He tried to help wherever he could. He was in a lot of pain, but it didn't stop him. He loved children and they loved him. He taught Sunday school and children returned to visit him even after they grew up. He had a little red scooter and he would use it to get to the mailbox. A little boy up the street from him would wait for him and as soon as he saw him he would race George to the mailbox. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Blanch Pickens Ericksen, and some siblings. He is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Shupp and Darlene (James Higgins) Bowen; two brothers, Byron (Dolly) Ericksen and Larry (Winnie Ellis) Ericksen; 10 grandchildren, Eric Shupp, Cassandra and Don Martie, Aleeta and Garry Kirstings, Paul and Brenda Pier, Cheryl and Vinnie Headrick, Dr. James and Kelly Higgins-Zigler; 16 great grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3565 NE West Devils Lake Rd. in Lincoln City.
