She was born Sept. 12, 1932 to Charles and Eloise Canfield in Rapid City, S.D. She attended high school in Waldport. She later worked for a chiropractor, Dr. Castle, in Newport for 30 years and also did home health care. She taught caregiving and cooking classes. She enjoyed oil painting and also grew and hybridized her own fuchsias and loved her greenhouse. She grew a huge vegetable garden and canned everything she grew. She enjoyed collecting all kinds of books, but especially enjoyed the antique ones. She also loved music of all kinds. She was a member of Yachats Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette; parents, Charles and Eloise Canfield; and brother, Clark Canfield. She is survived by her children, Mara Clark, James (Connie) Holt, Joanne (Ray) Jeans and Patricia (Ken) Wilson; siblings, Doris Gardenhire and Charles Canfield; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Yachats Presbyterian Church, 360 W. Seventh St., Yachats. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan Pacific Hospice, P.O. Box 945, Newport OR 97365. Affordable Burial and Cremation in Newport is handling arrangements. Note: "Yachats" is pronounced "Ya-hots".
