Wilson, 91, of Los Altos, Calif., died from cancer on Nov. 3, 2010 at the VA Palo Alto Hospital in Palo Alto, Calif. He was born June 9, 1919 to David "Elmer" Wilson and Bertha A. Malkson in Ridgefield, Wash. He graduated from Bend High School in 1937 and joined the U.S. Navy. At the time of the Pearl Harbor attack on Dec. 7, 1941, he was stationed aboard the USS Nevada located at the end of battleship row next to the USS Arizona. He retired from the Navy in 1963, having achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3rd Class. He was a lifelong member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and a member of the Santa Clara Valley Chapter 7. On June 9, 2003, he married his high school sweetheart, Fern Ramberg in Newport, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, David "Elmer" Wilson and Bertha A. Malkson, and sister, Jean. He is survived by his wife, Fern Wilson of Columbia Falls, Mont.; son, Richard Wilson of North Hollywood, Calif.; stepchildren, Jason and Julie Ramberg of Columbia Falls; and Lindsay and Melvin Clark of Logsden; step-grandchildren, Chase Ramberg of Columbia Falls, Adam Clark of Logsden and Kelly Clark of Waldport; and five step-great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to The American Cancer Society, 747 Camden Ave., Suite B, Campbell CA 95008.
