She was born at home on Dec. 14, 1923 to Paul Alexander and Iris Marie Gibons Parce in Batavia, Ill. She was the second of three daughters. She experienced the Great Depression as a child, then World War II following her graduation from high school in Waukegan, Ill. She and her sister worked at the Great Lakes Naval Station following high school and volunteered at the USO. In 1949, she married Robert Bryan Fitzsimmons after working to help her uncle in his bakery and then doing the bookkeeping for a business owned by her husband's uncle in Wheaton, Ill. They were married for 61 years. She and Robert both had large extended families. Social activities including picnics, weekend trips and Sunday dinners were family-centered. Her family loved to play cards and frequent get-togethers involved multiple card tables set up and active 10 minutes after people walked through the door. She loved cooking and collected cookbooks and recipes, particularly recipes from other family members. Large family events were often at her house, and her parents came for Sunday dinner every week. She stayed up late before each holiday to make special breads and pastry using old family recipes. She also liked needlework, both knitting and tatting. She and Robert moved from Illinois to Beaverton, Ore. in 1968 and then to Lincoln City in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Alexander and Iris Marie Gibons Parce, and siblings, Gyneth and Billie June. She is survived by her husband, Robert; children, Bryan Fitzsimmons, Shannon Rose Fitzsimmons and Janet Jacobs; and grandchildren, Marie Iris Jaron, Chris Alan Jaron, Sean Conlan Fitzsimmons, Amira Shagaga and Sama Shagaga; and great-grandchild, Gregory Peters. No public service is scheduled at this time. Memorial donations may be made to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospice. Affordable Burial and Cremation in Newport is handling arrangements.
