He was born July 8, 1943 to Andrew M. Hatfield and Margaret "Jane" Crowder in Klamath Falls, Ore. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1961. As a young man, Jim was a professional drag racer. He owned one of the first "funny cars," which was named White Lightning. He worked for the Weyerhaeuser woods truck shop in Klamath Falls for 22 years. Jim and Melody, his wife, moved to Gleneden Beach in 1966. He enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles, playing Pogo games on the computer, and the daily virtual horse race, which he and his caregiver entered. Jim had a strong belief in the Lord and was ready to go home. He touched many lives with his sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew M. Hatfield and Margaret "Jane" Crowder; and son, Andrew "Jake" Hatfield. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Melody Gritton; daughter, Jennifer (Andreas) Becker of Scotts Valley, Calif.; daughters, Marcia Schmidtke of Albany and Lori (Clint) Spencer of Hermiston; son, Terry (Kim) Lasniewski of Klamath Falls; sister, Peggy Hansen of Chiloquin, Ore.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Kitto, of Albany, Kylie and Keygan Lasniewski of Klamath Falls, and Max Spencer of Hermiston; and nieces. A celebration of Jim's life will be held next summer. Memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
