He was born Dec. 29, 1930 to Leslie and Gertrude Buffington in Britton, S.D. In 1948, he was one of six graduates from Claremont High School in South Dakota. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Alaska during the Korean War. After serving, he went to work for Southern Pacific Railroad in Sparks, Nev. and continued to work there for 41 years. He was a member of the Pyramid Lodge Masons and the Kerak Shriners in Nevada. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and gardening, as well as playing cards and socializing with his friends. He is survived by his son, Bruce Buffington; daughters, Cindy Fitzgerald and Mary Croft; brother, John Buffington of Waldport and grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins, nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. in Portland.
