He was born Aug. 5, 1943 to Norris Monroe Johnson and Dorothy Esta (Kirsch) Johnson in Staples, Minn. He attended Sutherlin High School and then earned his GED in the Lincoln County School District in the 70s. He attended some college. He married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Tucker, in Stevenson, Wash. on March 5, 1962. He retired as a millwright from Georgia-Pacific in 2003 after 37 years of employment. He was a member of the Toledo Boomer Booster Club, NRA, PADI Diving Society, the Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Elks BPOE #1664 in Toledo. His hobbies included hunting, diving, shooting and reloading. He also rode and raced motorcycles. He enjoyed traveling with and spending time with his family and his beloved dog, Thomas Howard. He was known as "Papa Larry" to his loved ones, and he lived life to the fullest. His family meant the world to him and he would do anything for them. He was quick to lend a hand to whoever needed him. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Patsy Tucker, and father-in-law, Jim Tucker. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Johnson of Toledo; parents, Norris and Dorothy Johnson of Sutherlin, Ore.; son, Larry Monroe (Janet) Johnson Jr. of Toledo; sister Janet (Roy) Palmer of Roseburg; sister-in-law Cathy (Donn) Liston of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Lynnesy Johnson and Bo Johnson, both of Toledo; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Toledo Elks Club, 123 SE Alder St. Affordable Burial and Cremation in Newport is handling arrangements.
