She was born June 9, 1926 to Percy and Frances Russell in Puyallup, Wash. She attended high school in Puyallup and earned a BA degree from Washington State University. She was a member of Chi Omega sorority. She moved to Hawaii with her family and worked as an ATC Teletype operator in the Honolulu International Airport for several years. In 1952, she met her future husband, Edwin Peckens, who also worked at the Honolulu Airport. They were married in 1954 in North Bergen, N.J. and immediately moved to Seattle, Wash. Her husband joined Pan American Airways in 1957, and their travels began. They traveled the world visiting Monte Carlo, Venice, Vienna, Paris, Rome, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Honolulu, but London was their favorite place of all. They were in Berlin when Kennedy was assassinated, making their return exceedingly difficult. Their daughter, Stacey, was born in American Samoa where they lived for six and a half years. After retiring from Pan Am in 1986, they settled in Vacaville, Calif., and moved to their home in Waldport in 1995. She enjoyed many things, including traveling, playing bridge, reading, crabbing, and walking on the beach. She was an excellent cook and loved trying new recipes. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Edwin Peckens of Waldport; her daughter, Stacey Dye of Sisters, Ore.; and three grandchildren, Brittany, Brogin, and Nicolas Dye.
