She was born March 20, 1934 to William and Susie (Baxter) Nelson in Grand Junction, Colo. She completed her GED and took several college courses. Over her lifetime, she lived in Central Oregon, Forth Smith, Ark., Spokane, Wash., Newport and Siletz. She was employed as a real estate agent for Century 21, a waitress, as a restaurant manager and as a home health care provider. She was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). She lived for gardening, home remodeling, quilting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Susie Nelson, and her son, John William Axtman. She is survived by her former husband and father of her children, Marlin Jack Axtman, of Salem; children, Michael Axtman of Powell Butte, Jack Axtman of Spokane, Jeff Axtman of Hephzibah, Ga. and Clarice (Scott) Farley of Siletz; siblings, Jim, Romalee, Nina, Charles and Annette; grandchildren, Jake, Willie and Jenna Axtman; and three great-grandchildren. A gathering of family and friends will be at 11 a.m. on July 4 at the Prineville Bluff Overlook. Memorial donations may be made to a local food bank.
