He was 92. He was born on Dec. 14, 1917, to Leonard F. and Elida Mae (Bates) Lembkie in Hoquiam, Wash. He lived in Hoquiam until his teen years, then moved with his parents to Longview and then to Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1936. Mr. Lembkie was a charter member of the Oregon Air National Guard, joining the 123rd Observation Squadron at its inception. He served with the U.S. Air Force before and during World War ll, through the European theatre of operations. He attended Northwestern School of Law for two years before following a career in banking and business. His banking experience was with First National Bank of Oregon in Portland and Sweet Home, and with the Lincoln Bank of Lincoln City. He married Dorothy E. Arnold in Portland in 1944. Between 1961 and 1980, Lembkie and his wife owned and operated the Coast-to-Coast store in Tillamook. During that time he served on the city Planning and Zoning Commission for five years. They retired to the Sheridan/McMinnville area in 1982. He was a longtime member of Kiwanis, having served as president in Sweet Home in 1953 and Lincoln City in 1960. He was also a longtime member of the Elks Lodge and a member of the Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years. Mr. Lembkie enjoyed most sports, especially golf, bowling, boating and fishing, and also liked to travel. He raced sailboats and cars. He is survived by his son, Fred Lembkie of Gresham, and his daughter and son-in-law, Gini and Dennis Moreland of McMinnville. His beloved wife, Dorothy, died in 1995. Services have been held.
