She was born July 15, 1914 to Lee and Clara Affolter in Neskowin, Ore. She graduated from Nestucca High School in 1931. After graduation, she moved to Portland to attend business school. She married William F. McQuilliam in April of 1938. During her life, she lived in several different towns and cities in Oregon, Washington and California, but her favorite place was the Oregon coast. She had many different jobs during her lifetime. During World War II she worked at the shipyards in Portland. She worked at two different radio stations, KORE in Eugene and KNPT in Newport. She also managed Mo's Taft during the 1970s and early 1980s. She moved back to Portland in 1994 and worked until the year 2000, when she retired due to health issues. She was a member of the Tillamook Pioneer Association, and a past member of the Neighbors of Woodcraft and the Business and Professional Women of Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McQuilliam; her parents, Lee and Clara Affolter; and her brother, Leslie Affolter. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn R. Gillaspie and Toni Braxling, both of Portland; grandchildren, Hal Gillaspie of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cathy Gillaspie Roesch of Portland, Patti Braxling Smith of Toledo, Tim Braxling of Newport, and Ron Braxling of Tillamook; and 12 great-grandchildren. A private service will be held at the beach in Newport. Memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, Development Dept., 27001 Agoura Rd., Suite 250, Calabasas Hills, CA 91301.
