He was born Nov. 28, 1933 to Lawrence Von Jones and Dora Frances (Snyder) Jones in Kimball, Neb. He graduated from Oregon City High School in 1951, and in 1960, he earned a B.S. in Industrial Administration and Accounting at the University of Portland. He earned his wings as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. He served as president of Fort Bragg, Calif. chapter of Kiwanis in 1976. On May 28, 1983, he married Wanda Jones. In 1989, he purchased the Hilltop General Store in Waldport. He enjoyed reading, greeting customers in his store and impishly teasing his children and grandchildren. He also liked Notre Dame and University of Oregon football. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Jones; his second wife, Wanda K. Jones; sons, Keith Jones, Kevin Jones, and Allen Jones; daughter, Terry Lee Jones; and sister, Audrey Jones. He is survived by children, Bill and Nell Ritchey, Cathy and Mike Dunkle, Christian Jones, Julie and Rick Myers, Davita Jones, Ross and Michelle Mehtlan, Eric and Rose Mehtlan, and Von and Heather Jones; sisters, Mary Lee Hatfield and Judy Gettle; 26 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at St. Luke's-by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in Waldport, with a viewing beginning at noon. A reception will follow. A graveside vaulted interment will be at Alder Grove Cemetery in Waldport. Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association.
