Mitchell Jack R. Mitchell, 77, of Newport, Ore., died suddenly in an automobile accident on June 3, 2010. He was born Oct. 4, 1932. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees at Arizona State University. He taught elementary, middle, high school and college courses in his teaching career. After retiring in 1991 from Waldport Middle School, he and his wife, Nancy, spent many hours volunteering at schools, church, hospice and Habitat for Humanity. He had many blessings in his life, but the most important were his family and his life at Atonement Lutheran Church. Singing in the choir and Coastal Aires Barber Shop chorus was a joy in his life. He loved making friends wherever he went, whether walking in Newport or on his travels. His love of people and music brought him much pleasure. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy J. Mitchell; daughter, Heidi (Larry) Miller of Apple Valley, Calif.; son, Shawn Mitchell of Newport; five stepchildren through his marriage to Nancy; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
