She was born Nov. 2, 1928 at #1 Ranger Station located in the Idaho Forest, near the Middle Fork of the Clearwater River, about 25 miles upstream from Kooskia, Idaho. In 1934, she moved to Kalispell Bay in Priest Lake, Idaho, where she began her early schooling in a one-room school house, which was located about 30 miles from home. She spent a few months in Lewiston, Idaho, but then relocated in Kalispell, Mont. in 1935. When she was 12 years old and in the seventh grade, her parents took her out of school as they relocated in Powell District where her father accepted a ranger's position. As the daughter of a forest ranger, she shared many adventures in nature with her family. She attended high school in Missoula, but in her freshman year, 1944, her family relocated to Portland, Ore. Her family later moved to Parkrose, where she graduated from Parkrose High School. In 1947, as a senior in high school, she began work at J.K. Gills in downtown Portland. It was there where she fell in love with a co-worker, Richard Stewart. She continued her schooling at Oregon Business College, however, she and Richard "Dick" were married on May 29, 1948, ending her educational pursuit but beginning a rich and loving marriage that lasting for 62 years until her death. Silver Lake in Fremont National Forest became their first home. In 1949, they relocated to Portland, where she gave birth to her first child. In 1958, they moved to southeast Portland where they remained for 19 years. In 1976, Patricia moved to Otis, then two years later relocated to Lincoln City. She worked as an aide for Oceanlake Grade School, at Folkstads Drugstore, and at the liquor store in Lincoln City. She loved to collect Indian and Native American artifacts. She loved sewing, embroidery, and making special wall hangings. She loved the outdoors and hosted forest survivor camps. She was preceded in death by her son, James Frederick Stewart; and sisters, Jacqueline Edna Ballas, and Phyllis Irene Greenlaw. She is survived by her husband, Richard Franklin Stewart; daughters, Rae Ferguson Tilton, and Stephanie Kathleen Tilton; sons, Richard Franklin Stewart, Jr., and Clyde Eugene "Gene" Stewart; brothers, Clyde Alexander Ferguson, and Ray Stephens Ferguson; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 10, at the Episcopal Parish of St. James, 2490 NE Highway 101 in Lincoln City. There will be a luncheon reception at the church following the service. Her final resting place will be at the church gardens. Pacific View Memorial Chapel in Lincoln City is handling arrangements.
