Spears James W. Spears, 51, of Gleneden Beach, Ore. died May 27, 2010 at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. He was born Oct. 2, 1958 to Art and Peggy Spears in Port Huron, Mich. He grew up in Marine City and Walled Lake, Mich. He attended Northwestern University and other local colleges. He taught computer classes at the local community college. For many years he worked in the computer software industry for companies including IBM and Cross Access. His work took him to New York, San Jose, Calif. and Tokyo, Japan. He was always a brilliant and talented man and could learn anything he applied himself to. In 2005, he moved to Coronado Shores in Gleneden Beach to take care of his mother, who was healing from a fall. He began working as a self-employed contractor and worked on many homes in the area. He loved his work and enjoyed the folks he came in contact with through working on their homes. He also found a wonderful group of friends in Coronado Shores and Depoe Bay. They were like extended family to him. He was loved and respected by his family, friends and neighbors. He enjoyed watching a football game, the NASCAR races, grilling up something delicious, playing pool and singing karaoke with his friends. He will be remembered for his big heart, his good work, his positive outlook, his quick response to help a friend or neighbor, his love of a good time, and his laugh. He had a positive effect on many people. He was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Peggy Spears. He is survived by his brother, Robert Spears, of Bruce Crossing, Mich. and his sister, Carol Spears, of Portland.
