Terrill Edith E. Terrill, formerly of Lincoln City, died June 15, 2010, after a brief illness. She was 77. Edith was born on June 27, 1932, in Munich, Germany, the only child of Harry S. Sichel and Herta M. Sichel (Horn). She fled Nazi Germany in the company of her parents, arriving in New York harbor in August 1939. The family settled in Portland and became grocers. Edith graduated from Grant High School and attended OSC, where she met her husband, Fred Terrill. She devoted the next several years to homemaking, child-rearing, and volunteer service. In 1971, she returned to school, eventually earning an Master of Social Work degree from the University of Washington. Her professional career included positions at Northwest Hospital and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle as well as positions at North Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln City and Tillamook County General Hospital. She was instrumental in starting one of the first hospice programs while in Seattle at Northwest Hospital. She was active in the Episcopal Church and thoroughly enjoyed world travel, visiting Western Europe, East and South Africa, Israel and Turkey, China, Indonesia, the U.K. and, most recently, Scandinavia. She and Fred married on June 14, 1953. She is survived by her spouse; daughter Deborah Terrill; son Douglas Terrill; grandchildren Erika Castro, Kelsey Terrill, Mason Terrill, Biana Terrill; and great granddaughter Adriana Stephanie Castro. She enjoyed gardening and grandchildren and was a patron of the arts. In her later years she suffered from chronic pain and, while she will be sorely missed by her loved ones, they take comfort in knowing that she is in a better place. A memorial service will be held at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Wilsonville on July 5 at 2 p.m. The family suggests donations be made to William Temple House or the charity of their choice in lieu of flowers.
