He was born July 30, 1939 to Roy Austin and Phyllis (Sweet) Ramsdell in Beverly, Mass. Even though he loved growing up on the coast of Massachusetts, he listened to his dad talk about California and could hardly wait until he could see it. He moved there in 1961 and eventually started his own window cleaning business. The business thrived over the next 20 years. He met Connie Couture, and they were married three years later on Sept. 17, 1977 in Las Vegas. They decided they needed a quieter life and moved to Junction City, Ore. in 1988. The ocean kept calling to him, and they finally moved to the Waldport area in 1993. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed boating, camping, fishing, clamming and especially crabbing. Woodworking was also a hobby of his. He enjoyed making wooden cars and trucks for the grandkids, and he surprised his wife with a beautiful oak curio cabinet one year for Christmas. His greatest pleasure, however, was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. The summer of 2008, he and a friend rode their bikes to Fairbanks, Alaska, living one of his dreams. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Austin and Phyllis (Sweet) Ramsdell; brothers, Gene Ramsdell and Will Ramsdell; and sister, Patricia Gray. He is survived by his wife, Connie of Waldport; children, Linda Barrowclough of Center Tuftonboro, N.H., David Ramsdell, Jr. of Beverly, Mass, Sandra Ramsdell of Norco, Calif., Madalynne Crowe of Bay City, Texas and Irene Gering of Santa Rita, Guam; his sisters, Harriet Sears of Kissimmee, Fla., Sally McGinnis of Georgetown, Mass., and Penny Harriman of New York; brother, Ted Ramsdell of Beverly, Mass.; grandchildren, David Barrowclough of Burlington, Vt., Adrian Bastide and Michelle Lucia of Beverly, Mass., Heather Crowe of Chippewa Falls, Wis., Jonah and Grey Gering of Guam and Elizabeth Morrison of Center Tuftonboro, N.H.; and several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no service. Affordable Burial and Cremation in Newport is handling arrangements. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
