    1. [ORLINCOL] Cameron and Sharri Martin Welcomed as New Foursquare Pastors
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: marysday Surnames: Martin Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oregon.counties.lincoln/5635/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Posted: Friday, Nov 5th, 2010 The News Times, Newport, OR 97365 Newport Foursquare Church welcomes new pastor Newport Foursquare Church officially installed its new senior pastor, Cameron Martin, this month. He is pictured with his wife, Sharri. (Courtesy photo--see attached below) On Oct. 10, Newport Foursquare Church officially installed Pastor Cameron Martin as senior pastor. Martin and wife, Sharri, moved from Phoenix, Ariz. to accept the appointment at Newport Foursquare, which has ministered on the central coast for more than 30 years. He is the seventh pastor to lead at NFC, formerly known as New Life Center, and has been in full-time ministry since 2004 at Grace Chapel in Scottsdale, Ariz. "I believe God has called me to lead people to live their faith, to grow, to serve those around them, and to encourage others to do the same," Martin said. "I live a life filled with hope, marked by faith, and managed in joy. However, that was not always the case." Martin, born into the hippie culture around the turn of the '70s, said it was inevitable that he would be involved in many self-indulgent, self-destructive habits. For a time, that was true. Before finishing high school, he began a career in musical theatre, which he called an amoral playground in which he could never have lasted though he tried for almost a decade. She was born Oct. 3, 1923 to Edward Morris Coats and Leeta Inez Hewitt in Albany, Ore. Her mother's family were pioneers who came to the Oregon territory on the first organized wagon train in 1843. For many years, they held a land grant in the Willamette Valley, north of Salem. Her father's family were bridge builders who settled near Stayton in 1884. She grew up during the Great Depression, and came of age during World War II. She met her husband, Ernest Mason Demaray, while working as a waitress at the Palm Café in McMinnville. They were married in Bakersfield, Calif. They were soon parted, while he flew 31 combat missions as a bomber pilot in Europe for the 8th Airforce. She had many occupations and never had trouble finding a job. She ran a country store, riveted aircraft for Ryan Aeronautical, kept accounting books, worked as a newspaper reporter and as an executive secretary. But her career was teaching. She obtained her B.A., and M.S. degrees while working fulltime and caring for her family. She taught fourth grade through high school in Fremont, Calif., for 21 years. She had an unshakable faith that education was the answer to society's problems, and served that cause by schooling many young minds. She will be remembered as an early leader in environmental education in the San Francisco Bay Area. She received her master's degree in environmental education from California State University at Hayward in 1976, and developed the first such curriculum used in the Fremont School District. She and her husband Mason retired to Panther Creek, near Lincoln City in the mid-1980s. There she was active in the Garden Club, the DAR, and the Hat Club. During this time she organized and taught an informal summer school for the local kids at the Panther Creek community center. She is survived by two sons, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandson. JR. THOMAS Willis "Bill" D. Thomas Jr. died Sept. 10, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis from complications due to a fall. He was born Jan 3, 1922, in Hillsboro, Ore., to Emma Louise Ruicker and Willis D. Thomas Sr. He married June Rantleberg in 1941 and Donna Brown in 1963. Dodgers, photography, water skiing and camping in his younger years, coaching Little League, playing ball with his grandson, and rock collecting with his kids and music. Bill had a fabulous voice and would always sing his favorite Nat King Cole song. He always knew how to charm the ladies of all ages; they gravitated to his attentions even till the age of 88. Bill could captivate you with his stories and they were very often peppered with his great wit and embellished with sometimes "unbelievable" facts, but always a fun story. He loved his dachshund "Beau," who lived to be 18. He co-raised three children, whom he was always proud of. He is survived by his daughter, Irene Thomas-James, and husband, Dan, of Lincoln City; son Jonathan Thomas and wife, Jan, of Novato, Calif.; son Randy Thomas and wife, Mikiko, of Las Vegas , Nev.; grandson Brett Martin of Portland; granddaughter Laurel Marshall of northern California; and two great-grandchildren. A half-brother died earlier. There will be three services in the summer of 2011: one at Willamette National Cemetery; a celebration of life for friends and family filled with his favorite "chocolates," sweets and coffee; and a scattering of his cremains at his favorite railroad crossings that he worked on during his teens. Any food donations to homeless people would be appreciated and living life with a "Pay It Forward" mentality would be his wishes. Author: marysday Surnames: Wagner, Lockhart, McCuen, Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oregon.counties.lincoln/5618/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The News Guard, Lincoln City, OR 97367 Posted October 27, 2010 LINCOLN CITY WOMAN KILLED A Lincoln City woman was killed when her vehicle was crushed by a pole trailer at the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 229 just outside Toledo on Monday, Oct. 25. Police say Tamara Elizabeth Wagner, a 52-year-old wildlife biologist with the Oregon Department of Fish & Wildlife, was heading west on Highway 20 when her Chevrolet pickup collided with an overturned pole trailer that came hurtling along the roadway toward her. According to Oregon State Police, the pole trailer overturned after a Chevrolet passenger car pulled out from Highway 229 directly into the path of the Freightliner truck that was pulling it eastbound along Highway 20. Police say the car struck the truck's passenger side, with the impact causing the empty pole trailer to detach and crash into Wagner's oncoming pickup. Wagner was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger car driver, 82-year-old Martha Lockhart, of Olivehurst, Calif., was transported by ambulance to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport for treatment of non-life threatening injuries The truck driver, 57-year-old Michael McCuen, of Fall Creek, was uninjured. The collision took place at about 3:37 p.m. and led police to close the intersection for approximately seven hours. OSP troopers from the Newport Area Command office, with the assistance of OSP collision reconstructionists from Newport and Springfield offices, are leading the investigation. Wagner, known as Tami, had been with ODFW for 21 years, the last 14 of which she spent at the Newport field office, working on efforts to expand and improve natural habitat for native species. ODFW spokesman Rick Hargrave said Wagner was an "amazing personality" who will be deeply missed. "She was very much respected," he said, "not only among her colleagues there at that particular office but across the agency." Wagner also served on the advisory board of the Westwind Stewardship Group, an interdisciplinary body charged with overseeing development of a conservation plan to manage the 508-acre Westwind nature preserve north of Lincoln City.
