    1. [ORLINCOL] Dorothy Marie Chandler --Obituary
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: marysday Surnames: Chandler, Standage, Strode, Eatherly, Faulkner, Faughn, Preisz, Trantham, Allen, Classification: obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.oregon.counties.lincoln/6279/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Oct 10th, 2012 The News Times, Newport, OR 97365 Dorothy Chandler Dorothy Marie Chandler, 83, of Siletz, Ore., died Sept. 9, 2012 at her home. She was born June 20, 1929 in Rogue River, Ore. She was the third of five children born to John Clarence and Mary Verina (Standage) Strode. Dorothy grew up in little communities in Oregon, Washington and California. She attended school in Siletz and graduated in Linwood, Calif. Later she attended the local community college, which she was very proud of. At 17, Dorothy was married to Bartley Demoia Eatherly in Reno, Nev. They were married for 26 years and had three children together, Wayne, Larry and Darlene. She worked at Ohrback's Department Store in La Mirada, Calif. and worked for a short time at the state mental hospital in San Francisco. She lived in many places in her lifetime but she always called Siletz "home." In February 1971, Dorothy married the love of her life, Ernie Chandler. They shared 32 years together before his passing in September 2003. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary-Paul Washington Post 73, Eastern Star, retired Postmasters organization and the Siletz First Baptist Church. Dorothy was steadfast in her beliefs and morals and was always a gracious lady. She was a woman of integrity without waver. Dorothy took delight in crocheting, sewing, embroidery, making afghans, lampshades, clothing and table cloths. She loved to make new outfits for her doll collection. She also enjoyed collecting antiques and baking pies and sweets (she always said a meal was never complete until you've had dessert). She loved listening to classical music, picking little wild blackberries, reading, gardening and the color pink. She was fond of flowers of all kinds, but especially pink roses, pink peonies and "lamb's tongues." She loved to travel. Her adventurous spirit led her to Maine, Alaska, the Dakotas, Hawaii, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. Many trips to Salem were also necessary because that was the closest place to buy See's Candy. She still had a few things to cross off her "bucket-list" like sky diving and zip-lining. She was known as a Mom, Grama Grape, Dorothy, sister, aunt and friend. Her enduring wisdom, kindness, patience and strength will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernie Chandler; sisters, Mary Bernice Faulkner and Betty Faughn Preisz; and grandson, Chuckie Trantham. She is survived by her three children, Wayne (Sue) Eatherly of Puyallup, Wash., Larry (Sue) Eatherly of Siletz, and Darlene Trantham of Molalla; sister, Verna Jean Allen of Red Bluff; brother, Leland (Avalyne) Strode of Albany; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at the First Baptist (and Sacred Ground) Church, 377 SW Swan in Siletz, with a potluck reception following at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, P.O. Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202 or online at lls.org. Affordable Burial and Cremation is handling arrangements. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
