She was born Nov. 8, 1926 to Hubert Johnson and Margaret Steer in Hartford, Conn. Mary, the youngest of three children, grew up in Hartford, the daughter of a colonel in the Air Force, and liked to think of herself as "daddy's little girl." She was married three times and lived in Maryland, Ohio, Colorado and finally, Oregon. In her 30s, she worked for the Martin-Marietta Aerospace Program, where her second husband was the vice president. She raised her children with her third husband, mostly in Colorado, while they enjoyed a hobby of race car driving. Their skills won them both many awards in those years. She later moved to Oregon, where she earned a living as a Realtor and owner of a real estate company in Coos Bay, and she served some time as the president of the Oregon Board of Realtors. She loved to cook and entertain and often worked as a chef prior to retiring. Simultaneously, she enjoyed working as a historic guide at the Teller House in Central City, Colo. She had great art talent and enjoyed painting scenes on old hand saws, sculpting, and using her flair for arts and crafts to decorate her home and make gifts for her friends and family. Her retirement years were spent pursing that joy in the area of Coos Bay, and later living with daughter, Suzanne Durrett-Hayward in Seal Rock and then Newport; a move that was never regretted. She resided for a short time at Oceanview Senior Living, where she spent many happy moments enjoying the company and friendship of the other residents. Family members say Mary was known for telling it how it is; not using too much sugar. She was a realist and not interested in people's agendas, and most people loved her for her blunt honesty. She had a passion for life and wasn't afraid. She is survived by her five children, Sharon Joan Hall, Suzanne Michelle Durrett-Hayward, Devera Joyce Miller, William Richard Beck and James Adam Beck; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. A family wake type-memorial will be held at Devera and Rex Miller's farm in Coos Bay, where Mary's ashes will be scattered. Affordable Burial and Cremation is handling arrangements. He was 67. Gerald was born on the fourth of July in 1945. He was adopted as an infant by Georgianna Holcomb, of Tacoma, Washington, and welcomed into her home. "Gerry", as he liked to be called, spent his childhood in Tacoma and from an early age showed a high level of talent with the piano. Gerry became a skilled pianist after extensive practice with the family's grand piano. He received additional instruction from church leaders and eventually earned a college scholarship for his skill with the piano. As a young adult in the '70s, Gerry traveled the country as a long-haul truck driver. He found his way to Berkeley, California and called the bay area home for twenty years. Here, Gerry met up with Edward ("Ed") Rose. The two became good friends, along with Ed's spouse, Eileen Reboh. Gerry worked as an electrician and could be counted on to help friends with electrical problems, whether it was fixing something or installing fixtures. The San Francisco 49ers were his favorite football team and he was a ardent fan. Over the years, Gerry and his friends decided they needed a change of pace from the pressures of big city life. In 2003, when Ed and Eileen decided to move to Oregon, Gerry helped out bringing their dogs and many belongings. Once he saw the area, he became attracted to its natural beauty and spent the rest of his life calling Otis home. Gerry specifically enjoyed Panther Creek, finding it peaceful. Gerry was a frequenter of the Drift Wood Library and read extensively. He occasionally attended mass at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Lincoln City. Gerry will be forever remembered by friends for his keen intellect, for tutoring Eileen's daughters in Algebra and his ability to spell any word thrown at him. Gerry is survived by his close friends; Ed Rose and Eileen Reboh of Otis, Siobhan Reboh of Eugene, Shannon Reboh and Keiran Reboh-Blake of Otis. A funeral mass in Gerry's honor will be held at noon on September 27, 2012, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Lincoln City.
