She was employed 27 years by the Embarcadero Resort in Newport, OR where she retired at the age of 72. Darline enjoyed gardening, reading and her home. Darline is survived by 3 brothers: Norman Larsen, Dennis Smallwood (Charlene), Dwain Smallwood (Peggy); her children: Susan Vanderhoof, Mona Norris, Gary Hockema and Diane Hockema; were blessed with 11 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She will be laid to rest in Rest Lawn Cemetery with her father and her sister in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be sent to the local Eugene Alzheimer Assoc., 1000 Willagillespie, Suite #100, Eugene, OR 97401. We will miss her, Blessed B. "Ginger" Murphy Cornelia J. "Ginger" Murphy died in Lincoln City, May 4, 2013. She was born January 20, 1922 in San Diego, CA. Ginger worked for Ryan and Consolidated Aircraft during WWII in San Diego, CA. After the war she drove a cab for the Yellow Cab Co and taught defensive driving to private students. In the 60's and part of the 70's she ran a mobile food catering service and at that time owned and operated a beer and food bar with her husband, Bernie, with a western band. The name of the bar was as "Murphy's Leprechaun" located in Johnstown, CA. Her early interests were in competitive sports as a young girl became the fastest runner in grade school. She also enjoyed aerobatics, swimming and later bowling. Ginger had also worked for Eastern State Hospital many years ago. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Port Townsend, WA. A lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. Post #7498, Port Hadlock, WA. In 1995 she and her husband joined St. Augustine Church in Lincoln City, OR. She was very concerned and supported many animal rights organizations. She also fought for the rights of elderly, young and abused. Ginger was predeceased by her husband, Bernie; her father, Ralph Jerman; mother, Isabel Bellman; 2 sisters Pearl Gill and Mary Bell Troyer. Ginger is survived by 2 brothers-in-law; Eddie Murphy and Jimmy Murphy as well as many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in San Diego, CA on May 21, 2013. A memorial service will be conducted on May 16, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Lincoln City, OR. He was born June 21, 1947 the eldest son to Roy W. Sied and Julia N. Sied, in Portland, Or. Gordon made his living as a cattle rancher and he was also a skilled artist who liked to paint scenes depicting the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest landscape. He was a successful amateur athlete during his youth at Siletz High school where he graduated from in1965. Gordon was a life long sports enthusiast and Ducks football fan. Gordon lived mostly in the rural area of Logsden but he also spent some time residing in Newport, Or. Survived by siblings Judy and Bob, nieces Samantha and April, nephew Clark, and many cousins, Gordon was a gentle soul who enjoyed life and he will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. During her life she attended Northwestern University, worked for General Electric, married Jack Ewan on Aug. 7, 1948, and became an extraordinary mother, homemaker, volunteer and friend to many people from all walks of life. She volunteered to deliver food to people in need and to teach adults to read. She never judged anyone because of their circumstances; she made everyone feel like they had a friend. Ellie used her gardening talents to help spruce up the grounds of the Little Log Church. She was named the Yachats Volunteer of the Year in 1994, and was later named "gardener emeritus" by the Little Log Church and Museum. She served on the Yachats Street Commission and as a deacon for the Presbyterian Church. At various stages of her life, Ellie enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, fishing, hiking, skiing, bird watching, traveling, photography and crafts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, on Oct 7, 2009. She leaves behind three children who were the luckiest kids ever to get her as a mom: Steve Ewan and his wife, Jan; Barb Forsman and her husband, Rick; and Jan Lafeman and her husband, Don. She had four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial is planned at 1:30 p.m. June 25 at the Little Log Church (328 W 3rd St, Yachats) with a reception to follow at the Presbyterian Church (360 W 7th St. Yachats) Remembrances to the Yachats Presbyterian Church. He was 47 years old. David was born on July 24, 1965 in Sidney, Montana to Ronald (Pete) Zagel and Ruth Zagel of Newport, Oregon. He graduated Valedictorian Newport High School in 1983 and after that he attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon; attended University of Stuttgart, Stuttgart, Germany and graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Architecture (second in his class) 1988. David had many accomplishments throughout his life; he won the Bill Naito Rail and Transit Advocate Award in 1998. From 1997-2006 he was the Project Planner for TriMet in Portland, Oregon and from 2006 until his death, he was the Senior Transportation Planner for URS Corporation. David also held the seat of President, Vice President and Director of AORTA(Association of Oregon Rail and Transit Advocates). He was actively involved with Basic Rights of Oregon and was a member of the University of Oregon Alumni Association. David was passionate about Duck football, rail transportation and equal rights for all people. David loved to travel around the United States and had traveled to Germany, France, Spain and other European countries. David is survived by his mother, Ruth Zagel of Newport, Oregon; brothers, Jim Zagel and his wife Paula of Brighton, Colorado and Jon Zagel and his wife Darla of Newport, Oregon. David was preceded in death by his father, Pete Zagel of Newport, Oregon and brother, Mark Zagel of Anaconda, Montana. Two memorial services will be held for David: May 18, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Atonement Lutheran Church in Newport, Oregon, 2315 N. Coast Hwy. I have been having alot of trouble locating this family because the husband was a travelling silhouette artist, so they were always moving. I've just located his wife as dying in Oregon. Levada Ward, died 15 Apr 1982. Last residence was Newport I'm still trying to locate what happened to her husband Fred Ward born ca. 1891 N.Y. Where is Levada Ward buried? What was her maiden name? Private services for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Darrel was born Feb 10, 1935 to Elvin (Bud) and Bertha Sax near Rose Lodge, Oregon. He spent most of his school years in Central Oregon, attending high school in Redmond, until the family returned to the Oregon Coast, where he graduated from Taft High School. He proudly served his country in the US Army from 1954-1956. He worked in the logging industry in Oregon and Alaska. The family moved to Kennewick, WA, in the 1960's where he worked for the State Road Department, Acme Concrete, and he also farmed near Burbank, WA. He returned to Newport, OR in the early 1980's and worked for the Lincoln County Road Dept. His next adventure was to travel to Indonesia where he supervised a logging operation. In 1992 he returned to Oregon and started his own business, Sax Brush Cutting, which grew from his concept to a successful company serving public and private individuals, which included clearing land and building roads. Darrel sold Sax Brush Cutting in 2006. He and his wife, Ellen, moved to Central Oregon and completed their dream - a log home. In his retirement he volunteered for the local road district and volunteer fire department, along with helping neighbors with their building projects. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and flying an ultra-light known as a "powered parachute". He is survived by his wife Ellen, three daughters, Mary Kirby and Debra Sax of Kennewick, WA, and Lori (husband Roy) Masterson of Green Acres, WA; six grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters. The family suggest memorials to Chemult Rural Fire Protection District, P.O. Box 97, Chemult, OR. 97731.
