Hi! I'm new to this list but have spent some time researching my maternal family in Lane and Douglas Cos. I'm happy to share what I have with anyone researching the following lines: My 2nd-great grandparents: Charles Sherbondy (b 1843, Summit Co., OH; d ?) m. Martha Forrer (b 1845, PA, d ?) on 13 August 1868, OH. They lived in IL for several years after their marriage, then moved to Smith CO., KS in 1875. In 1877, they adopted my great-grandfather, William Henry Sherbondy (1875-1943). They followed the OR trail to Oregon, and first appear in the 1880 Lane Co. Census. Before 1890 they moved from Lane Co. to Douglas Co., where Charles owned several hundred acres. He sold that in 1910 and moved back to Lane Co (he seemed to be a restless spirit). I lose them after 1911, and cannot find them in the OR Death Index or the 1920 OR Soundex, so do not know if Charles and Martha left the state or died in OR. More 2nd-great grandparents: Clark Robeson McAfee (b 1848, Grundy Co., MO; d 1934, Eugene, OR) m. Harriet Alice Freshour (b 1862, San Joaquin Co., CA; d 1917, Gardiner, Douglas Co., OR) abt 1880, CA. Clark and Harriet's first daughter, Laura Alice McAfee, was born in CA abt 1881. The McAfees moved north soon after, and their second daughter, Mamie M. McAfee, was born in Jackson Co., OR in 1887. They settled in Gardiner, Douglas Co., OR, in 1888/89. Mamie married Charles J. Marks (b 1879, Douglas CO., OR; d. 1961, Douglas Co., OR) on March 16, 1909 in Gardiner. They divorced at an unknown date. Both apparently remarried; in a 1955 obituary for her sister, Mamie's name is given as "May Smith". At the time of his death, Charles Marks' widow was Eva Marks. My great-grandparents: William Henry Sherbondy and Laura Alice McAfee were married 8 April 1899, Scottsburg, Douglas Co. They had the following children (all born in Scottsburg/Gardiner, Douglas Co.): 1. Hazel (1900-abt 1930; died in Reedsport; m. Jack Diehl) 2. Oscar Henry (1902-1989; died in Reedsport; m. Norma E. Carlson); 3. Claude W. (1905-1982; died in North Bend, OR; m. Elsie Vada Smith); 4. Floyd Arnold (1907-1994; my grandfather; died in Morton, Lewis Co., WA; m. Dorothy King); 5. Albert (b/d 1911, Reedsport, OR); 6. Mary Thelma (1912-1996; d. in Eugene; m. Monty Lougheed); 7. Ruby Viola (1914-1983; m. Troy Burt) Laura and William divorced abt 1920. Both remarried. Laura died in Springfield (Lane Co.) in 1955. William died in Coos Bay (Coos Co.) in 1943.
