Hi Lou. This may or may not be related to the Sinclair line you mentioned, although I have a Hannah SINCLAIR (my 5xgreat grandmother)who married William BALFOUR in the 1760's, however I have the MACKAY name in my tree as well. I have been having difficulties with that side of the family. My 4xGgrandfather Angus MACKAY married Euphan BALFOUR(b1770), who had child Elizabeth MACKAY c1806. As this would put her around the same age as your William, I was wondering if you know anything of his siblings / other family? I only know of Elizabeth at this stage. How have you traced the MacKay section of the tree? As these families seem to be very interlinked, there may well be a link that turns up. If this is not immediately apparent, please keep it in mind in future. Elizabeth MACKAY married James WORK in 1828 in Kirkwall. Which larger Island is Orphir near?
