A check of the 1851 census for Hugh McKays found one age 42, fisherman, unmarried, born Farr, Sut., a boarder with John and Betsy McKay and family. (John age 40, born Farr) [nearby was a Euphemia McKay, lodger, unmarried, age 37, born Farr; Ann, wife of Thomas Anderson, age 39, born Farr; Margaret, wife of John Guthrie, age 44, born Farr......] A James Taylor, age 57, was born in South Ronaldsay; An Ann Johnston, age 58, unmarried was born in Burray. (Of course, I have no way of knowing if any of these are the correct people or not.) So there exists the possibility that Hugh and Donald were related, and perhaps John too. Happy Hunting! Stephen
