Phillip, my great grandfather was James Yorston Rendall. We know he emigrated from the Orkneys to Cleveland, Ohio USA (via Canada) sometime before 1900. With Ann Rendall's help, I have found a birth record for James Yorston Rendall, born September 16, 1855 in Evie and Rendall, Orkney, to William Rendall and Ann Irvine. James Yorston had a sister, Ann, born February 22, 1835 at Evie and Rendall. You will find these records in the Rendall Files at Ann Rendall's website, Rendall.net.
