On the other hand, I just spent 6 pounds for 24 hours of access to the indexes and feel that it was well spent this time. I think what made it very valuable was that I was searching for a pretty uncommon name, TODRICK & I could collect all incidences of the name in a 10 year period, often on one page. At Scots Origins, for your 6 pounds you can download 30 pages of information. I f you use the wildcards, e.g. I searched for Tod*ric*, you get most of the variable spellings. When I got desperate to find one particular birth, I searched for Adam* Tod*ri* and found him- Adam Toddridge! There were many that should have been in the IGI because they were OPR, but they weren't- I'd say 30 to 40 % were not in the IGI. You can get to Scots Origins at http://www.origins.net/GRO/ This was the first time I had people born later than 1855 to search & found it interesting to see the deaths and the census records- 1891 only, but the births are not too usefull unless you can match them with the census records. Unlike the OPR, they don't list the parents in the indexes. -- Pam Thomson of BC, Canada New email address: as of August pamthom@intergate.bc.ca
