    1. [ORKNEY] Re: ORKNEY-D Digest V99 #198
    2. 21 August, 1999 12:30 PM Pacific Daylight Time Hello David: Thank you for the valuable information which you gave to me regarding The Battle of Bothwell Bridge. I had never heard of that battle before I was informed of it about two weeks ago. I heard just very little about it, but I would like to learn more. Is there a book written about the battle (and events surrounding it's occurance) that you know of? Where did you get your information about the Battle of Bothwell Bridge? Who was this James, Duke of Monmouth? Who were the Covenanters? I am sorry that I seemed to place the blame on the English, I was repeating what I had heard, without proper investigation. I have examined my genealogical records and can find no mention of Margaret Rich or William Stewart. However, if she was from Rackwick, she must have been a relative, possibly a sister of Charles or an aunt or a cousin. This would have been especially true if she did, in fact, spell her name Rich. I found it especially interesting to learn, from your letter, that Battle of Bothwell Bridge was in Scotland and not England. As I said earlier I had never heard of Bothwell Bridge before. I, after hearing of the battle, just assumed that my ancestors were from England and then shipwrecked at the Orkney Islands enroute to America. You see, there was an inference made,by the person who told me of the battle that led me to beleive that Bothwell Bridge was in England. Please, let me hear from you again, David. I have enjoyed reading what you have had to say and I hope to learn more. If I can tell you any more about my family history, please don't hesitate to ask.
